A chinese ghost story trilogy1/2/2023 Executive producers, Ketsarinh Lan, Cheung Keung, Yau Kin Ming, Lung Chau Wan, Kuk Kwok Hing, Lai Tsun Kei, Wong Wai Yu, Chan Wai Lun. (International sales: Golden Sun, Hong Kong.) Produced by Lai Tsun Kei, Hui Kin Hoi, Pang Yik. (in China)/Newport Entertainment (in Hong Kong) release of a Golden Sun Century Multimedia Co., Beijing Forbidden City Film Co., CHS Media, TIK Culture Development Co., HuaXia Film Distribution Co., Golden Sun Films Holdings, HolyTown Media Co., Asia Bright Investment presentation of a Golden Sun Films production. Pic is dedicated to the memory of Leslie Cheng, the late star of the original “A Chinese Ghost Story” and its 1990 sequel.Ī HuaXia Film Distribution Co. With virtually every shot a Dutch angle and its color-drained imagery edited at machine gun pace, pic’s visuals may appeal to some younger auds weaned on computer games but will turn off many viewers who associate Chinese fantasy with rich hues and graceful assemblage. Best perfs are delivered by veteran Wai as the cackling mother beast, and Fan Sui Wong as Suet Fung Li, a one-armed demon slayer whose late arrival brings much-needed pep to the final furlongs. Liu lacks spark as the sad ghost, and Koo has little to do other than look stern and handsome. Failing to deliver the innocence required of Ning, Yu’s one-note perf renders him as a goofball whose persistent offerings of sweets to Siu Sin are hardly the stuff of an appealing romantic lead. Still, the love triangle produces little excitement. The last man standing after Lou Lou’s foxy female assistants use deadly kisses to drain the killers’ life energy, Ning meets Siu Sin and starts a romance that’s interrupted by jealous Yin, who’s been hovering in the woods all this time. Ordered to find a new water source for the community, Ning enters the haunted forest with village idiot Ti Nga (Li Ching) and a squad of convicted murderers. Meanwhile, nerdy young government official Ning Choi-san (Yu Shaoqun, “Forever Enthralled”) arrives in Black Mountain Village, a drought-stricken outpost located close to Lou Lou’s lair. Source material not acknowledged in credits is “Strange Stories From a Chinese Studio,” a collection of short works by 17th-century author Pu Songling that’s inspired adaptations on big- and smallscreens since the 1960 Shaw Brothers feature “The Enchanting Shadow.” A certified classic, the 1987 version by helmer Ching Siu-tung and producer Tsui Hark launched a hit trilogy that introduced many Western auds to Chinese fantasy cinema.Īction here kicks off with demon hunter Yin Chek Ha (Louis Koo) falling in love with Siu Sin (Liu Yifei, “ The Forbidden Kingdom”), a beautiful fox spirit enslaved to Lou Lou (Wai Ying-hung), a fearsome tree demon whose swirling mass of hair is her deadliest weapon.

Nintendo even makes it a point in the suit to call it out, “The LoveROMs and LoveRETRO websites are among the most open and notorious online hubs for pirated video games.” Put all of these factors together and these sites had massive bulls-eyes on them for just this kind of response. Finally that other site would not host BIOS files, which are proprietary software in certain consoles that are required to get certain emulators working, which it was revealed Mathias’ sites also hosted. This other site also would pull down any game that the publisher had requested, so if you went to most Capcom titles there would be a note that the game was removed due to the publisher’s request. The one or two sites I used to frequent would pull down specific roms that were re-released such as Virtual Console games and more recently the “Classic Edition” line of Nintendo’s library. While I’d never been on the site myself, the fact that these sites had direct download links to a myriad of roms (files that represent a cartridge based video game) that included Nintendo’s prime catalog is a big mistake. Those who work in rom sites specifically tend to not carry certain games and files specifically for fear that something like this would happen. For those not familiar, Torrent Freak refers to itself as “a publication dedicated to bringing the latest news about copyright, privacy, and everything related to filesharing.” The web sites in question were owned by an individual, Jacob Mathias, who ran his own Arizona-based LLC that focused on these file sharing sites. Just under a month ago, web site Torrent Freak reported that Nintendo sued and over having open access to copyrighted material. It’s relatively cheap, free if you don’t need to backup carts, and it will allow you to never worry about losing another game again whether it’s damaged, stolen, or subject to the rare chip/disc rot. The response you should be having is to start looking into ways to back up your own games. Not only do I feel this will never happen, but this response is flawed and wrong. My peers are avidly going out and downloading entire collections of games and files from these sites to have on hand should we see the fall of the easy to access rom site. With the recent fall of some major rom sites, and others pulling their own hosted files offline as a response, I’ve seen a somewhat trending reaction from the community that concerns me. |
